Colla del Safrà

9 Group of painters

La Colla del Safrà, or Colla de Sant Martí (The Saffron, or Sant Martí, Gang) was a group of Post-Modernista painters who came together between 1892 and 1898. The work done by its members was characterised by the use of yellowish tones and its concentration on landscapes, seeking out marginal subjects in the outlying neighbourhoods of Barcelona. Members of the group included I. Nonell, R. Pichot, J. Mir, R. Canals and A. Gual. They all took part in the General Fine Arts Exhibition in Barcelona of 1896.
