The Heritage Conservation Society

The Heritage Conservation Society (HCS) is a non-stock, non-profit organisation advocating the protection and preservation of our built heritage, cultural and historical sites and settings, thereby upholding the Philippine Constitution by developing and preserving heritage and culture for national identity.

Philippine society values and preserves its cultural heritage in order to instill pride of place and strengthen national identity. Consequently, the mission of the HSC is to be the prime mover and advocate for the preservation of Philippine built heritage resources in order to contribute towards the establishment of a society that preserves and values its cultural heritage through advocacy and volunteerism, project implementation, education and information.

Heritage conservation maintains links with our past by preserving significant structures, historical and cultural sites and settings. Our built heritage is evidence of our political history and socioeconomic development; it reflects our shared values, and is tangible proof of Philippine excellence and creativity.

Far from converting anything of our heritage into a museum, the HCS affirms that an efficient 21st century lifestyle can occur in the same urban and architectural environment created by earlier generations. Built heritage can be recycled for contemporary, adaptive reuse, thereby preserving the cultural charm and traditional character of our cities and towns. Heritage conservation enhances progress and modernisation: from urban revitalisation and community housing, to the revival of traditional crafts and the stimulation of entrepreneurial activities. It awakens our pride of place, arousing cultural and historical awareness, which often advances cultural tourism.
