Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859

The most important Modernista heritage in the town of Sabadell consists of two buildings by the architect Jeroni Martorell i Terrats designed for the Caixa d’Estalvis de Sabadell bank. The main building was constructed between 1904 and 1915 and has an impressive façade with decorative sculptures by Josep Llimona and majestic interiors, amongst which the Pati Turull is a highlight, containing as it does a grand staircase that leads to the second floor, where the splendid function room is located.

On the other hand, the building now housing the bank’s Espai Cultura Fundació Sabadell 1859 community projects offices was the former Arts and Crafts Industrial School, built between 1907 and 1910 and initiated by Caixa d’Estalvis de Sabadell itself. It is a more austere building that is made unique by a tall cylindrical tower at the edge of its rectangular layout. The aim of the Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859 Community Projects Foundation is to promote social welfare and socioeconomic and cultural development in its area of influence, and it is also responsible for maintaining and protecting this valuable heritage.
