Fundación Alonso García Bravo

The Alonso García Bravo Foundation is a non-profit civil association set up in December 1990 to promote all manner of activities aimed at regenerating, rehabilitating and adapting Mexico City's historical centre and monumental zones to urban society today. It seeks to strengthen the socio-cultural, economic and tourist potential of the city in order to improve urban spaces and create a better way of life for its inhabitants.

As a member of the European Art Nouveau Route, it organised a major exhibition in June 2000 entitled "La Ruta Americana del Modernismo. Art Nouveau de la Ciudad de México" (The American Modernista Route: Art Nouveau in Mexico City), which was presented in the Museu de Mataró, Barcelona's Casa Amatller and in the Museo Nacional de Arquitectura in Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes. The exhibition presented architecture in three of the city's districts - its historical centre, Colonia Santa María la Ribera and Colonia Roma - and also highlighted the role of painters and draughtsmen and publications such as Revista Moderna. The exhibition greatly contributed to raising public awareness about the city's Art Nouveau heritage.
