This exhibition is the most comprehensive show to date on the work of iconic turn-of-the-century sculptor Josep Llimona i Bruguera (Barcelona, 1864-1934).
The show invites visitors to walk through the artist´s entire production from the beginning of his training, with works from his earliest days (The Prodigal Son, 1879, MNAC), to works from his period of full maturity (Adolescent or Naïve, 1924, Museum of Catalan Modernism), alongside pieces that represent the beginnings of his fullest symbolist language (Modesty, 1891, Museum of Montserrat).
More than 60 pieces have been gathered together for the occasion, including previously unseen works by the public and a wide range of pieces by the sculptor that display his various specialties, from drawing to art objects, in which sculpture is strongly featured. Given the relevance of Josep Llimona´s production in Catalan art history, the exhibition seeks to show the great quantity of his work and be the retrospective that this major artist deserves.

Viennese design and architecture around 1900 is a global brand. How did this situation come about and what effects did these decisive moments in Modernism have? The exhibition presents main works by Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos as expression of central themes in a cultural debate. The show documents the different, often antithetical paths that the protagonists chose for shaping modern life, which today´s designers and architects also react to.

Tracey Emin, a superstar and enfant terrible of contemporary art, will engage in a fascinating artistic dialogue, as she will not only present her own works but will also incorporate a personal selection of drawings by Egon Schiele into the exhibition. This exploration of the Austrian Expressionist´s oeuvre allows Tracey Emin to venture into unchartered territory with her art and to draw interesting parallels.

During the boom years in the second half of the nineteenth century, a multitude of mansions and splendid public buildings sprang up around Vienna´s magnificent boulevard, the Ringstrasse. In summer 2015, the Belvedere will be dedicating the exhibition Klimt and the Ringstrasse to those charismatic painters who adorned the Ring´s buildings and shaped the style of their era. Starting with the oeuvre of "painter prince" Hans Makart, it traces developments up to the triumph of the young Gustav Klimt and his painters´ collective, the Künstler-Compagnie. Reconstructions of entire decorative ensembles will present the dazzling lifestyle during the Ringstrasse era to visitors. The exhibition will not only feature sensuous, narrative artworks, but also examples of the young Klimt´s art, which have never been shown to the public before.

The Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza, in collaboration with the Munch Museet of Oslo, will host the first major exhibition to be held on the Norwegian artist in Madrid since 1984. The presentation will examine Edvard Much´s long and prolific career through eighty works by the painter, half of them from the collection of the Munch Museet.
Structured by themes, it will explore the representation of the human figure in various settings: the coast, the patient´s room, the abyss, the green room, the forest, night, the artist´s studio. In order to show the radical nature of his artistic language, the exhibition will study the interplay between flat and sinuous forms, the ambiguity of opposites, symbolic colour, the expressive deformation of the body and the use of experimental textures and engraving techniques. Edvard Munch will ultimately analyse the artistic strategies used by the painter to orient space towards a psychic dimension and convert his compositions into a lasting truth that symbolises the human condition.
Art study days: Edvard Munch
On 22 and 23 October 2015, the Museum´s Department of Modern Painting is organising art study days in connection with the temporary exhibition on Edvard Munch. The exhibition "Only Those Who Fight Survive: L´École de Nancy and the Political and Social Questions of its Period" presents l´École de Nancy through a heretofore unseen prism: that of the political commitment of Emile Galle, Victor Prouve and other members of the Art Nouveau movement in Nancy.
The relationship between art and politics is explained to a certain extent by the search for total and social art yet also by its historical context.
Firstly, visitors discover the particular dimension that Art Nouveau had in Nancy due to Lorraine´s convulsive history, the trauma that arose from losing territories annexed by Germany in 1871 and Nancy´s role as a border town and last bastion against the German threat. Then the show covers the decisive action of Émile Gallé, l´École de Nancy´s first president.
Several works illustrate his stance in favour of oppressed peoples such as the Armenians, Irish, or Romanian Jews. His commitment in the Dreyfus affair went beyond the arts. Here, we discover the intellectual Gallé and his public and political involvement. Victor Prouvé, who would succeed Gallé
as president of l´École de Nancy, had a diferent political sensibility, influenced by anarchism and his friend Charles Keller, an old communard. The exhibition reveals Victor Prouvé´s evolution and his ornamentation for buildings, in which his republican commitment is apparent. This led him to be elected municipal counsellor in 1912.
Finally, the last section covers the venture of the Nancy People´s University and People´s House. Members and sympathisers of l´École de Nancy joined his educational project and participated in several initiatives.
The show, which has received the certification of "Exhibition of National Interest"
from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, lets us discover the intellectual modernity of l´École de Nancy, which mobilised on issues that are still topical today.

Within the new concept of modern art that was formulated at the end of the 19th century, the difference and hierarchy between the various artistic genres began to become less distinct. Graphic art consequently became the subject of enormous interest and experimentation on the part of painters such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard and Mucha, among others, a fact that also benefitted specialist illustrators who began to be seen as artists. In addition, technical innovations in printmaking which allowed for increasingly rapid methods of reproduction of higher quality and in larger print runs, combined with the increasing presence of advertising as part of contemporary culture, definitively broke down the previous boundaries which had confined graphic illustration to books and magazines and this medium now took possession of the street in the form of posters.

Organised by Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and the Mucha Foundation
"Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beauty" explores the work of the artist, around the theme of beauty - the core principle underlying his artistic philosophy. The show will include over 60 works drawn primarily from the collection of the Mucha Trust, focusing on drawings, paintings, photographs and iconic posters, such as Gismonda, Mucha´s first poster designed for the actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Like artists of the British Arts and Crafts movement, it was Mucha´s belief that beautiful works of art should improve the quality of people's lives.

On the occasion of the centenary of the death of the artist, the Museu Nacional and the Museu d´Art Jaume Morera are dedicating a solo exhibition to Xavier Gosé, one of the most international Catalan artists of the early 20th century.
Gosé´s work swings between Modernisme and Art Déco, inspired by the daily life of concert cafés, midinettes (seamstresses), prostitutes, the snobs and flâneurs of the boulevards, horse races and sportsmen. His refined and elegant hand captured the fashions and silhouettes of the finest French fashion houses such as Poiret, Worth, Paquin, Redfern, Doucet and Vionnet, and influenced geometric Cubism, Persian inspiration and Russian ballets.
